Bee’s home and studio are in the heart of the historic market town of Devizes in Wiltshire. Here she mostly makes mixed media paintings of land and sea which draw inspiration from all over the British Isles. She often paints out of doors and makes sketches which, along with photographic material, is worked up later in her studio. She has always been compelled to draw and paint, beginning to paint full-time ten years ago.
She says of her work :
“Often it’s the abstract language of mark-making which intrigues me : the potency of minimal marks to communicate broader meaning coalesces with the affecting power of colour to offer an interpretation of the landscape. A clear narrative doesn’t always attach itself to my paintings – instead they’re intended as visual experiences which can be perceived at an emotional level.”
Bee has studied ceramics, is a qualified Garden Designer, has a BA in History of Art and is currently studying at the Newlyn School of Art. Bee’s work
is sold through The Elgin Gallery, and through The White Chalk Gallery in Devizes.
